Tourism and Events Excellence Conference

Regional tourism was a hot topic at the Tourism and Events Excellence Conference that was held in July.

Around 320 delegates from all over Australia attended the conference, which discussed the current position and outlook for Australia’s tourism industry.

Presenters covered a range of topics, including promoting tourism through digital media, opportunities for domestic tourism, the changing landscape of the Australian visitor economy, the Australian tourism brand, and many more.

On a regional level, discussion focused on encouraging international visitors to move into the regions, regional tourism growth, keeping skilled workers in regions, regional tourism product development, funding programs and the importance of partnerships and collaboration.

Tilma Group’s Director, Linda Tillman, presented to a group of around 30 delegates on the topic ‘Rural Tourism – Collaboration is Key’, which was one of the key presentations that focused on regional tourism.

Using Junee Tourism as a successful case study, Linda demonstrated how collaboration can be used as an effective tourism strategy for regional and rural areas. The presentation generated plenty of discussion, with delegates from NSW and Victoria expressing interest in having further discussions with Tilma Management about the strategies used to develop the industry in Junee.
